McDonald’s diner’s anger after her kids are unable to get a vegetarian Happy Meal with a toy like their pals

A MUM has slammed McDonald’s for failing to provide a vegetarian Happy Meal option – after her kids were left feeling “disheartened” when they were forced to go without a toy.

Pooja Dattani-Pau wrote a scathing complaint to the fast food chain over claims her children were “treated differently” to meat-eating kids.

Happy Meal options include a cheeseburger, chicken McNuggets and fish fingers

She wrote on McDonald’s Facebook page: “I cannot believe this is the case in 2017.

“My two children feel disheartened as all the other kids have a Happy Meal with a toy however they could not as they are vegetarian.

“I am very disappointed with this as surely being a vegetarian should not mean being treated any different.”

Pooja discovered the lack of options for vegetarian kids when she visited the Riverside branch in Reading on Wednesday.

After ordering two veggie meals, the youngsters complained they felt left out as they looked around at the other children playing with their Happy Meal toys.

Pooja claims she asked staff if she could pay more to have a toy come with their meal, but was refused.

She said: “I spoke to the manager who despite me saying I would pay the Happy Meal price, as my youngest wanted a toy, was quite sure being a vegetarian child meant they would miss out on this.

“It’s only for non-veggie kids.”

BURGER ME! The surprising things you never knew about McDonald’s

According to its website, McDonald’s offer a Vegetarian Deluxe and a Spicy Vegetable Deluxe for non-meat-eaters.

Happy Meals, however, only offer the option of crispy chicken wrap, cheeseburger, hamburger, chicken McNuggets or fish fingers, with carrot sticks available instead of chips if required.

Maccie D bosses say they are always looking to “evolve” their menu and welcomed Pooja’s input.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “Whilst we don’t currently offer a vegetarian option in our Happy Meal, we are always looking at ways to evolve our menu and are exploring a number of opportunities to provide more choice for our Happy Meal customers.”

This week the fast food chain’s “secret” Big Mac sauce recipe was reportedly leaked online.

It came after McDonald’s was criticised for charging a teen 99p – despite them ordering absolutely nothing from the menu.
