Vegetarian fast food fans are outraged after popular chicken chain Nando’s quietly dropped its popular veggie burger from menus.
The Portuguese-inspired restaurant group has introduced two new vegetarian burger options including one made of kale and broccoli to replace the veggie patty.
But customers are not happy with the new additions and have taken to Twitter to furiously complain about their favourite menu item being discontinued – and there’s even a petition to bring it back.
Nando’s popular veggie patty which could be ordered in a burger, pitta or wrap has been discontinued this month
Several fans said they visit Nando’s several times a month and always order the veggie patty, which customers could choose to have in pitta, a wrap or in a burger.
Nando’s has yet to explain why it has discontinued the burger, but its Twitter account confirmed to disappointed customers that they will no longer be able to order the veggie patty.
Instead, it has introduced a new Supergreen Burger, Pitta or Wrap containing broccoli, kale and edamame beans, as well as a Sweet Potato & Butternut Burger, Pitta or Wrap.
Some fans are so upset they have launched a petition for the South African chain to bring the burger back, which 1,200 people have signed.

The veggie burger isn’t the only item that has been discontinued at Nando’s this month.
The chain has also quietly dropped its Fino Coleslaw and Fino Platter.
Nando’s has added new Fino Pitta to the menu, which it describes as ‘an extra special Fino upgrade, as a toasted pitta is introduced to two flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken thighs, topped with grilled halloumi cheese, caramelised red onion relish, cos lettuce and wild garlic aioli mayonnaise’.
But it is the veggie burger that has devastated vegetarian customers, who joked that they might sue the chain for removing the item.
A Nando’s spokesman said: ‘We regularly look at our menu to keep it fresh and ensure that PERi-PERi fans always have a great choice. Fino fanatics needn’t worry because we’ve just launched the new Fino Pitta and those looking for meat free options now have two new veggie choices, the sweet potato and butternut burger and the super green burger’.
